Liberia’s work to strengthen the teaching profession is receiving recognition at the continental level.

At the Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) 13th International Conference and 15th Roundtable in Gaborone, Botswana, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah was awarded the AFTRA Fellowship in recognition of contributions to advancing teacher standards, regulation, and professionalization across the sector. The convening was opened by the President of Botswana, His Excellency Duma Gideon Boko.
Among officials recognized during the conference, Dr. Jallah was the only serving Minister of Education to receive the Fellowship.
Although unable to attend in person due to ongoing sector engagements at home, the Minister addressed the conference virtually while the award was received on her behalf by Deputy Minister for Instruction, Hon. Amos Armah Fully.
In her remarks, she reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to building a more structured and accountable teaching profession through stronger regulatory and licensing systems.
Liberia also accepted the honor of hosting the AFTRA Annual Conference in 2027, creating another opportunity to deepen collaboration and strengthen teacher development efforts across the continent.
