Ministry of Education and Local Education Group Bids Outgoing UNICEF Representative Andy Brooks Farewell
The Ministry of Education and members of the Local Education Group (LEG) today bidded outgoing UNICEF Representative in Liberia and LEG Co-Chair, Mr. Andy Brooks, farewell as he concludes his service in Liberia.
The farewell took place during a meeting of the LEG chaired by Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, bringing together government officials and education partners to review key sector priorities, including the Annual School Census and EMIS, TVET, the Back to My Classroom Campaign, the Mid-Term Review of the Education Sector Plan and Partnership Compact, European Union support to strengthen EMIS, and the development of the EMIS Policy.
Reflecting on his time working with the Ministry, Mr. Brooks spoke about a principle he and Minister Jallah came to share: never becoming so accustomed to persistent problems that unacceptable conditions begin to seem normal. He said this had reinforced the importance of continuing to question what could be improved and remaining focused on the conditions children experience within the education system.
He also noted a stronger orientation of development partnerships around the Ministry’s reform priorities, which are aligned with the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. Emphasizing that education is central to the country’s development agenda, he encouraged continued collaboration and reminded stakeholders to “never lose sight of what you can do to make a difference.”
Minister Jallah expressed appreciation for Mr. Brooks’ leadership, partnership, professionalism, and friendship, recognizing his contribution to the Ministry’s work and to stronger collaboration across the education sector.
On behalf of the Ministry and its Senior Management Team, she presented Mr. Brooks with gifts in appreciation of his service.
The Ministry of Education extends its sincere gratitude to Mr. Brooks for his contribution to Liberia’s education sector and wishes him continued success in his next chapter.
