Message from the Minister of Education

Dear Students, Teachers, School Administrators, Parents and Guardians,

As schools across Liberia open for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, I welcome you back to the classroom and to the important work that begins there each day.

This year opens at a time when we are asking more of our education system. We are working to bring children who are still outside school back into learning, strengthen the schools receiving them, improve support to teachers, and make sure that the policies we announce are reflected in what families actually experience.

For parents and guardians of children attending public schools from Kindergarten through Grade 6, registration is free. No child at these levels should be kept out of school because a family cannot afford a registration fee, and no public school should replace that fee with an unauthorized charge.

I encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity. Take your children to school. But your role does not end with enrollment. Know whether your child is attending. Ask what they are learning. Follow their progress and remain engaged with the school throughout the year.

To our teachers and school administrators, the new academic year places an important responsibility in your hands. Schools must be ready to receive learners, teachers must be present and prepared, instructional time must be protected, and every child should be treated with dignity and given a meaningful opportunity to learn.

Across the country, the Ministry will continue strengthening monitoring and accountability. Our county and district education structures, supported by 160 M&E interns, will be working in schools and communities to follow implementation, identify challenges, and help ensure that national policies are being applied where they matter most.

This work also connects to our Back to My Classroom Campaign, as we work to return thousands of out-of-school children to education. Bringing a child back is only the first step. We must create the conditions that help that child remain in school, participate, learn, and progress.

And to our students, whether you are entering school for the first time, returning after the break, coming back after time away, or preparing for your final year, I ask you to make full use of the opportunity before you. Attend your classes. Read. Ask questions. Respect one another. Seek help when you need it. Your education should expand what you know, what you can do, and what you believe is possible for your future.

The work of improving education will not be completed in one academic year. But every day that a teacher teaches well, a child attends and learns, a parent stays involved, and a school is properly managed moves us forward.

I wish every learner, educator, family, and school community a productive 2026/2027 Academic Year.
