LIBERIA JOINS GLOBAL EDUCATION LEADERS AT UNESCO WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY PANEL.

Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah today represented Liberia at UNESCO Headquarters during the World Teachers’ Day 2026 ministerial panel, “Elevating the Status of Teachers: Ministerial Perspectives and Shared Priorities.”

The discussion brought together education leaders from Liberia, Brunei Darussalam, Uganda and Malta, and was moderated by Borhene Chakroun, Director of UNESCO’s Division for Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems.

Minister Jallah shared Liberia’s approach to strengthening the teaching profession through three connected priorities: protecting the workforce, professionalizing teaching, and improving the conditions teachers need to remain and succeed in the profession.

She highlighted ongoing efforts to move qualified volunteer teachers onto payroll, strengthen workforce verification, expand professional development and certification, improve career pathways, and address the realities of rural service through stronger working conditions and support.

During the discussion, the Minister described Liberian teachers today as “steadfast” and shared her aspiration for the profession over the next decade: “thriving.”

Liberia’s participation placed the country’s teacher reform agenda within a wider global conversation on investment, retention, professional growth, and the future of teaching.

Happy World Teachers’ Day to teachers across Liberia.
