Education Minister Addresses 110th National Decoration Day Observance

The Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, delivered the keynote address at the 110th National Decoration Day observance held at Providence Baptist Church, calling on Liberians to reflect on the nation’s history and the responsibilities carried by the living.
Addressing senior government officials, religious leaders, and citizens, Dr. Jallah noted that Decoration Day is more than a ritual of clearing graves and laying wreaths. She described it as a moment of national reflection that honors both the well-known figures in Liberia’s history and the many individuals whose sacrifices remain known only to their families and to God.
Reflecting on Liberia’s journey through periods of hardship and conflict, the Minister emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace, strengthening institutions, and ensuring that the sacrifices of previous generations are not forgotten.
Dr. Jallah also highlighted the role of education in carrying forward the nation’s legacy, recognizing pioneers such as Dr. Mary Antoinette Brown-Sherman, Africa’s first female university president, and Fatima Massaquoi-Fahnbulleh, whose contributions helped shape Liberia’s intellectual life.
She encouraged citizens, families, and education stakeholders to continue investing in education and preparing the next generation to lead with integrity, responsibility, and service.
