Education Minister Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah has announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening teaching, school quality, and student support across Liberia.
Speaking on Education at Mid-Week on ELBC Radio, the Minister disclosed that 1,000 additional qualified volunteer teachers will be placed on the government payroll through resources allocated in the current national budget.
She also announced plans to recruit 150 Monitoring and Evaluation Supervision Interns to support District Education Officers in strengthening school supervision and ensuring compliance with national education standards.
The Minister highlighted progress in girls’ enrollment, ongoing efforts to improve retention and completion, and Liberia’s commitment to expanding school feeding coverage from 18 percent to 45 percent of primary school students by 2029.
She further noted that school geo-mapping has been completed in five counties and that the number of legally permitted schools has grown from approximately 800 to more than 2,000 nationwide, reflecting improvements in the school permitting process.
Dr. Jallah emphasized that these efforts form part of the Ministry’s broader commitment to improving learning opportunities, strengthening accountability, and supporting quality education for all Liberian children.
