A New Standard for Senior Secondary Education in Margibi County.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai today commissioned the Kakata Senior Secondary Model School, marking a major step in expanding access to quality senior secondary education beyond Monrovia.

Implemented by the Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank under the IRISE Project, the US$1.6 million investment is the first senior secondary model school in Margibi County, designed to set a new standard for teaching, learning, and school management.

The facility will serve up to 750 students (Grades 10 to 12) and includes 15 classrooms, fully equipped science laboratories, an ICT lab, solar-powered water systems, and disability inclusive WASH facilities with ramps and accessible infrastructure, ensuring that all students can learn in a safe and supportive environment.

During the ceremony, students formally gowned the Minister of Education, while traditional leaders honored the World Bank Managing Director, reflecting a shared commitment between communities, government, and partners to invest in Liberia’s future.

In her remarks, the Minister emphasized that this is not just a new facility, but a model for how schools should function, with strong leadership, consistent teaching, practical learning, and accountability.

President Boakai called on the community to take ownership of the school and ensure it delivers results for students.

This is what progress looks like, when investment meets leadership, and every child, regardless of ability, is given a real chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
