Minister Jallah Challenges Presidential Scholars to Make Their Education Count for Liberia

The Government of Liberia has launched the 2026 Presidential Scholarship Recipients’ Inter-University Debate Competition under the theme, “Empowering Youth Intellect, Driving National Development.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah reminded the scholars that a scholarship is an investment in their potential, and that its true value will be measured by what they eventually do with the opportunity.

She challenged them to think beyond earning a degree and ask a more important question:

“Your country has invested in your education. What will Liberia receive from that investment?”

The Minister encouraged the scholars to use their education to produce ideas, solutions, businesses, discoveries, better public service, and opportunities for others, stressing that “national development begins when intellect becomes useful.”

She also urged the debaters to think critically, defend ideas with evidence, listen carefully to opposing views, and use knowledge to solve real problems facing Liberia.

The Ministry congratulates the Presidential Scholarship Committee, its partners, and all participating scholars.

Debate boldly. Think critically. And wherever your education takes you, make sure Liberia is better because you had the opportunity to receive it.
