Minister Jallah Briefs Public on Free Primary School Registration and School Accountability

Minister of Education Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah appeared at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism’s regular press briefing to update the public on key education reforms ahead of the 2026/2027 academic year.

A major focus of the briefing was the Government’s decision to eliminate registration fees for children enrolling in public schools from Kindergarten through Grade 6. The measure is intended to remove a financial barrier that can prevent children from entering school.

The Minister assured the public that schools will not be left to carry the cost. The policy will be supported through direct school financing under the Liberia EXCEL Project, the Equitable Funding Formula, and the Government’s long-term Education Investment Strategy, helping schools meet essential needs while reducing the burden on families.

She also cautioned public schools against replacing registration fees with unauthorized charges.

As part of stronger enforcement and accountability, the Ministry is deploying 160 M&E interns across the country to work alongside District Education Officers, County Education Officers, and other relevant institutions to monitor implementation and report violations.

The Minister also addressed school quality and regulation, reminding school operators that they must have valid authorization from the Ministry to operate. The Ministry’s digitized school permitting system can be accessed at permit.moe.gov.lr.

Parents and guardians, take your children to school. If a public school asks you to pay a registration fee for Kindergarten through Grade 6, report it or seek clarification through 077-721-2197 or 088-656-5264.
