Office of Legal Affairs
An Office of the Legal Counsel headed by a licensed Counselor-at-law, appointed by the Minister, whose functions shall include the following:
- Perform all legal works required by the Ministry and its auxiliary bodies. These include providing legal opinions to the Minister, the Deputy Ministers, the Assistant Ministers, and the various Departments of the Ministry, as well as representing the Ministry in any litigation, in association with the Ministry of Justice and any lawyer engaged by the Ministry for that purpose;
- Provide direction to the Ministry in the drafting of laws regulations required by the Ministry, including ensuring that such laws are consistent with the Constitution of Liberia and in harmony with other laws. The Legal Counsel shall ensure that laws relating to the functions and activities of the Ministry are available to the authorities of the Ministry as well as are easily accessible to the public;
- Provide an annual report to the Minister on the activities of the Office for inclusion by the Minister in the Ministry’s Annual Report , as well as such other reports as may be required by the Minister or any of the Departments of the Ministry in connection with the duties, responsibilities and activities of the Office.
